Description

Loreto Open Community is a project aimed at transforming Piazzale Loreto in Milan into a public space serving the citizens through the urban regeneration of the area. Conceived by Nhood Italia, it introduces the concept of a partially pedestrianized “green agora” that connects Loreto Nord with the Corso Buenos Aires / Viale Monza / Via Padova axis.
The intervention, with an estimated value of around €80 million, includes diverting traffic away from the square, constructing three new buildings for commercial, office, and recreational use — all featuring green rooftops — and creating a new public square.
Upon completion — currently expected by 2026 — the redeveloped square will span 9,200 square meters, including 3,900 square meters of green space, new tree plantings, solar panels, bike lanes, and electric charging stations.

In 2023, the “LOC 2026” hub was inaugurated on Via Porpora, on the ground floor of the building bearing the same name. It serves as a public space for dialogue and information where citizens can learn more about the Loreto Open Community project. The hub covers 170 square meters indoors and 345 square meters outdoors, offering free events and discussions on topics such as the role of the square, architecture, mobility, and urban greenery.

As part of this project, the BIM-Lab.net Project team was responsible for the multidisciplinary modeling of the existing conditions of both Piazzale Loreto and the Porpora building.

As part of the work on Piazzale Loreto, the focus was placed primarily on the MEP systems located beneath the square, particularly those serving the access corridors to the metro and the adjacent commercial spaces — including electrical, mechanical, fire prevention, and video surveillance systems.

For the building known as Porpora, the team was responsible for the architectural, structural, and MEP as-built modeling in a BIM environment, based on the point cloud provided by the client.
